Hockey Hats & Apparel

Hockey Clothing

Ice hockey is a major sport in North America, and the market for equipment is a reflection of that. The sport has also grown in popularity across the globe in part due to the development of synthetic ice.

The padding on the thighs, pelvis and hips of goalie trousers is thicker. Goalie jocks (also known as Jills) are less protective of the groin but more padding in front of the cup.

Apparel

Hockey players must wear protective gear because the sport is high-speed on hard surfaces. Players are frequently involved in collisions and sometimes intentionally. Besides ice skates and sticks the most common safety gear includes a helmet (with a visor or full face mask), shoulder pads and elbow pads, mouth guard and gloves, as well as heavily cushioned shorts (also known as hockey pants or jock athletic protection for males; and a jockstrap for females, or a "jill" for females) and a pelvic protection (known as a girdle for women) and thigh, tailbone, hip, and shin pads. A neck protector may also be worn.

In recent times, technology was used to reduce the weight of the clothing and make it more practical. For instance, many companies currently use carbon composites to make stick shafts and specialized foam is also available to make shoulder pads more lightweight without harming protection. Other advancements include 3D scanning that can accurately determine the body proportions of a player, so that elbow knee, the knee and shin pads can be designed to fit the specific player.

The market for hockey is predicted to grow over the next several years as more people are aware of the sport and as artificial ice rinks are built around the world that allow players in areas which natural ice isn't available. In addition there has been a significant increase in the number of female players which is good for market growth.

Jerseys

Jerseys are the uniforms worn by hockey players. The jerseys tend to be thicker and come with longer sleeves than other sports jerseys. The jerseys have the team logo on the front as well as the last name of the player on upper back and the number ranging from 100 to 0. Some jerseys also sport a "C" and an "A" on the back, indicating the team's captain and alternate captain.

There are two kinds of NHL jerseys: authentic and replica. Genuine jerseys feature the same design and are made from the same material. Replica jerseys are constructed from different (and generally less expensive) materials, and they may not have the same design as the authentic jerseys.

The majority of NHL teams have 3 or 4 sets of jerseys worn during games. There are also special sets, such as heritage designs and charity events. Each jersey is fitted with an elastic band that is sewn into the back of the inside known as a fight strap that must be tied to the player's pants during a game to stop the jersey from being pulled over a player's head during a fight.

The Authentic Pro is a top-tier NHL jersey made of high-performance fabrics. It features multilayered tackle twill, as well as 3D embroidery. It also has reinforced stitching. Both styles for women and men are available. The Authentic Premier is a lower-tier version of the Authentic Pro, and it is designed to replicate the appearance of the jerseys that players wear on the ice.

Shirts

The team's sweaters, also referred to as jerseys, are the most well-known piece of clothing. The primary logo of the team is displayed on the front and an additional logo is usually placed on the shoulders. The number of the player is displayed under the player's name which can range from 0 to 100. Team captains wear an uppercase "C" above and to the right of their jersey's name, two other players, designated as alternate captains--wear a "A" on theirs.

Most NHL teams have an alternate jersey that is worn for special occasions such as the Winter Classic and Stadium Series. Many teams also have an alternative that is retro or throwback for their home jerseys. Third-sweater sweaters allow teams to try out new designs and often serve as an element for the design of their primary sweaters.

The Vancouver Canucks have a beautiful sweater that manages to blend traditional and modern design. The blue and black jerseys have a striking style to them, which makes it easy to identify on the ice, and the white stripes add contrast. The Canucks have a beautiful font on the numbers and names, which adds to the sleek appearance of the jersey.
